Dear fellow architects,
The recent earthquake has made more than 600,000 people homeless and many more people are suffering from psychological stress due to damage of their houses and buildings. In this situation, the architect community of Nepal have to demonstrate proactive attitude and creativity. On behalf of SONA I would like to request you all to prepare innovative and practical designs of residential houses in urban, semi-urban and rural areas of Nepal. Let me propose the following guidelines for preparing the design:
1. For rural houses, study the existing designs in different communities and regions and propose innovations for aesthetics, structural safety, affordability and sustainability.
2. For semi urban areas and historic settlements, provide the designs of 3-4 storeyed row houses with or without shops at the ground floor. Consider the available width of the plot. The design may be based on framed structure or load bearing walls.
3. For urban areas, provide designs for RCC structures, row houses or individual detached houses.
SONA will collect the designs and submit to the Government. It is expected that a team of senior architects and engineers will select appropriate designs to be supplied to the affected households. The designer( individual or firm) shall be duly acknowledged. Please submit the designs latest by May 22, 2015.
Anticipating your overwhelming participation.
