Members of SONA are “Safety Service Stakeholders”, integral to ensuring Public Safety for All [PSFA]. Common folks like us, Safety Consumers, sleep soundly in our living, working, and social and cultural interaction environments when infrastructures have been designed and constructed to meet recognized safety standards. This cannot be achieved without understanding the “Fundamental concepts of Public Safety for All including for People with Disabilities and the Elderly [PSFA] by all safety service stakeholders. PSFA remains misunderstood, misconceived, misinterpreted, and ignored in Nepal’s planning, educational, and project implementation efforts. Consequences from the 2015 Gorkha-Nepal Earthquake, flooding (the most recent example Melamchi) and bridge infrastructure collapses, pollution and traffic, landslides, Covid, many others are some examples that exemplify failed understanding of public safety.
This presentation, titled Public Safety for All [PSFA], will be an overview on what is public safety and its status in Nepal. If there is enough interest amongst the Safety Stakeholders to understand public safety in-depth, a “Continuing Education” program, can be developed for SONA to dialogues on various concepts of Public Safety based on PSFA.
