23rd AGM and 3rd Nepal Architecture Festival

The  '3rd Nepal Architecture Festival' held at Hotel Yak and Yeti from 2nd to 4th November 2017. As the festival intended to celebrate the works of professional architects of Nepal as well as sensitize the contemporary architecture issues, the festival comprised of Annual General Meeting of SONA, National Architecture Exhibition, Technical Sessions on various topics and Friendship Night Dinner with ARCASIA member countries. During the same occasion, ARCASIA Council Meeting and SAARCH Presidents' Meeting also took place parallelly on Hotel Soaltee. 
The festival started with the 23rd Annual General Meeting of SONA where 12th Executive Committee presented the summary report of SONA Activities to its members. The attendees were informed about various initiations and activities of SONA such as 'SONA Award on Single Residential Building', 'SONA Token of Love' Design Competition, 'Green and Sustainable Poster Design Competition', SONA's UIA Membership and more. Besides, participant architects actively involved in the discussion regarding Statute Amendment and other issues. 
 The formal inauguration of the Architecture Festival took place on the second session of the day in the presence of chief guest Prof. Dr. Jib Raj Pokherel (vice chancellor of NAST), special guest Ar. Divya Kush (President of IIA), Chairperson Prof. Suman N. Vaidya (President of SONA) and convenor of Festival Ar. Rajesh Thapa. The session also celebrated the award distribution ceremony of SONA Token of Love Design Competition. 
While the National Exhibition continued on the second day, the series of Technical Sessions energized the event with the discussion on contemporary issues of Architecture and the profession. The theme of the technical session was 'Design and Planning Challenges in the Post Earthquake Built Environment'. The first session observed the presentations by Mr. Kanak Mani Dixit and Prof. Dr. Sudarshan Raj Tiwari on theme 'Perceptions and Contradictions in reconstruction management'. Prof Dr. P.N. Maskey shed light on post-earthquake reconstruction practices and appropriate technology under the theme 'Post-earthquake Design and Reconstruction Experiences' in the second session. The technical session ended with the keynote presentation by Ar. Kishore Thapa on the third session 'Post Earthquake Settlement Planning and Urban Development'.
The Architecture Festival came to an end on the third day with the celebration among Architects of Nepal and ARCASIA member countries. SONA hosted the Friendship Night Dinner and Cultural Program to all the participants, sponsors, volunteers, special guests and ARCASIA member countries and expressed the vote of thanks to all the helping hands.
