- Since there are limited numbers of entries , Jury has decided to skip the Consolation prizes.
ABOUT THE PARK LANDSCAPE DESIGN COMPETITION
- A. Purview
- Concept should evolve out of Site factors (attributes of site) and use factors.
- For “use factors” the park is deemed to serve the communities around as well as other interest groups for both “active” and “passive” recreation for all age groups;
- Should stand out as oasis in the area enhancing the urban environment in conducive way.
- The cricket ground being in very close proximity the designer should bear this aspect in mind so as the role of the park will be in complimentary and not in conflict with it.
- It should create an ambience of community park serving unique blend of heterogeneous target group.
- The conceptual paradigm should justify the principle of design with note to validate compatibility with the site and surroundings.
- The landscape elements should incorporate both “hard” and “soft” justifying the setting and vicinity.
- Plant material should be indigenous and should be spelled out.
- Type of ground cover should be specified.
- Transformation of landfill site is a major task hence conceptual design should categorically spell out the ground preparation and landform aspect.
- Program formulation should be rationalized and justified.
- Landscape furniture should be part of the concept.
- The walk ways, essential trails and built structures should be integral part of the concept.
- Park should be friendly to physically challenged and people of all age and group.
- Proposed ground form should be backed up by “grading plan” and sections
- Final conceptual composite map should be backed up by various “thematic map” of the site so as to validate “compatibility” and sustainability of the concept
- As far as possible park should incur low maintenance.
- It shall integrate with and complement the existing site structures
- It shall not in any way change/relocate or disturb the proposed structures
- Note: Thematic map consists of all the landscape themes of the site such as geology, soil, vegetation, hydrology, views, artifacts, topography etc.
- B. Registration procedures
- Fill in the form and register . Go to www.sona.org.np to download the form.
- Send your filled registration form to sona2047@gmail.com and receive the competition details. Details shall be sent to the registered participants only.
- Submit the final design in both hard and soft copy to SONA secretariat.
- C. Who can participate
- The competition is open to all the architects working in Nepal and registered updated member of SONA and meeting professional requirements.
- Architects (architectural teams) may participate in the competition, if they meet the following requirements:
- Architects participating in the competition shall be duly registered in Nepal Engineering Council
- Architectural teams participating in the competition shall have at least one registered in Nepal Engineering Council architect who will be the team leader.
- At the time of registration, competitors shall prove their professional competence by a duly certified copy of a formal document on their license /registration / certification/ authorization.
- D. Submittals by the participants

- V. Blow up Plans/Sections of specific locations

- VII. Storm water drainage -plan/details
- VIII. 3-D views.
- IX. Presentation shall be limited to not more than 10 sheets of A2 size.
- The sheets shall be numbered serially 1/3, 2/3, 3/3; and carry the competition code ‘‘SONA -2014_DC2’’. Name of the architect/firm or any identification number etc shall NOT be written on any of the presentation sheets. The name shall be submitted separately.
- Scale: Master Plans 1:1500, Blow up plan/section 1:500 and any suitable scale for other drawings.
- Medium: No restriction on the medium, colors or techniques for presentation sheets.
- E. Prizes : There shall be 3 winners and 2 consolation prizes selected by eminent panel of Jury.
- F. Value of prizes
- 1st Prize: NRs. 2,00,000/- & Certificate
- 2nd Prize: NRs. 1,00,000/- & Certificate
- 3rd Prize: NRs. 50,000/- & Certificate
- Two Consolation prizes: NRs. 25,000/- & Certificate
- All the entries shall be given certificates of participation.
- G. Important Dates:

- 27 Ashwin, 2071 Last date of submission (Extended)
- SONA extends the date of submission for the park design from 27th Ashwin, 2071 to 13th Kartik, 2071 (30th October).

- 13 Kartik, 2071 Announcement of result
- Note: Prize awarding ceremony: Awards and certificate shall be distributed in a special award function.
- H. About the jury
- Jury board: 5 Jury Members in total, a discerning group of jurors composed of design professionals and academicians.
- Jury responsibilities:
- To review and evaluate the design entries identifying the noteworthy design submissions that fulfill the given criteria, are inspiring and complement KVDA’s goal.
- To write a report explaining its reasons for selecting the winning design and ranking the other prize-winning designs, including any honorable mentions.
- Jury evaluation criteria:
- Strength of concept or idea
- Impact (based upon the criteria of Culture, Economy, Environment and People)
- Quality of the overall design with regard to the location in the designated area
- Comprehensive architectural quality of a design
- Quality of functional, layout and operational designs
- Extent of compliance with program requirements
- Economic and operational feasibility.
- Disqualification conditions:
- The jury shall eliminate from the competition all those designs that:
- A competitor may be disqualified if they communicate, regarding the competition, with the client, jurors or any other consultant involved in the competition.
- Do not comply with content requirements of the announced Competition Regulation and Competition Program,
- Do not comply with the anonymity requirements of the Competition Regulation and Competition Program,
- Were not delivered within the required deadlines
- Competitors are aware of the fact that the jury is obliged to eliminate from regular evaluation all those competition designs that do not comply with the prescribed conditions.
- The jury will decide about the invitation of other experts if and when necessary.
- I. CLAUSE ON COPYRIGHT AND PUBLICATION OF DESIGNS
- Copyrights of competitors: Competitors may publish their competition designs after the announcement of the competition results. Should it happen before the announcement of the competition results, their designs shall be eliminated.
- Permission to use authorial works for the purposes of this competition: Designs that have been awarded a prize or an honorable mention become the ownership of KVDA. Their authors grant their consent to KVDA for the use of their submissions for the purposes of this competition. However, any use of their authorial works for other purposes than the ones set forth herein requires authorization by the authors. All drawings and plans, with the exception of those which have been awarded prizes or honorable mentions, will be archived unless the authors request their return.
- Consent of competitors with exhibition of competition designs: By submission of a competition design, a competitor agrees with free reproduction and exhibition of his/her competition design for the promotion of the competition and its results. Images of the winning designs will also be published by KVDA on its web site and in its Newsletter.
