Essay Competition on “Science in Architecture”
in association with Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Nepal
To the regular student of architecture, journalism may seem as a largely outlandish field. It is, however, largely untapped as a source of intellect. It is this source that Society of Nepalese Architects (SONA), in association with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Nepal is looking to explore through an essay writing competition. This post is a Call for Applications for an essay competition for the "SONA Science Day Award- 2021" from students pursing Bachelor of Architecture in Nepal.
The essay competition organized by the institution is aimed at architectural students who have a flair for writing and an ability to articulate ideas in written format. The key theme of the essay writing competition is 'Science in Architecture', the usage of which has been pivotal in the past and is shaping the future in many ways. The theme looks to explore the scientific aspects of building design and planning, inclusion of innovative technologies, alternative building materials and the concept of futurism. The key objective of this award is to recognize innovation, science and use of technologies in the field of architecture through research and practice.
Architecture is a confluence of art and science. The “Science in Architecture” essay competition is looking for your thoughts and opinions regarding the role of science in architecture. What is the impact of scientific development and innovation in architecture? If there is one at all, how does it affect architectural aesthetics and the working philosophy?
1. All architecture students pursuing their education in Nepal are eligible to participate.
2. Submissions can be done in English or Nepali language.
3. The topic is open for interpretation. All ideas and notions regarding the role of science in architecture are welcome.
4. Participants may submit their essays in a written format, a visual format, or a combination of the two.
5. The essay shall be no longer than 1500 words and 3 pages (A4 paper), with font size of 10.
6. All references must be cited.
Awards and Honors:
Winning submissions and honorable mentions shall be featured in “The Built Culture”, an architecture magazine initiated by SONA. Winners shall be awarded with recognition certificates, along with the cash prizes of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 for first, second and third positions respectively.
