History

Society of Nepalese Architects (SONA) was established in B.S. 2047 by the team of architects practicing in Nepal. Among them, the key personnel were Ar. Girish Chandra Regmi, Ar. Ishwor Lal Shrestha, Ar. Sangeeta Bastola, Ar. Bhuwaneswari Parajuli, Ar. Basanta Kumar Rai, Ar. Swarup G. Koney, Ar. Shreeram Bhagut Mathe, Ar. Binod Neupane etc. The first committee was made with Ar. Girish Chandra Regmi, Ar. Ishwor Lal Shrestha, Ar. Sangeeta Bastola, Ar. Bhuwaneswari Parajuli, Ar. Basanta Kumar Rai, Ar. Swarup G. Koney and the first adobe president of that committee was Ar. Girish Chandra Regmi. Due to Mr. Regmi’s contribution; the name and constitution of SONA was given to this association of Nepalese architects. Then the LOGO of SONA was selected from the LOGO competition done in exhibition held in Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, A-block and Ar. Shahidi’s Logo was selected in first position which currently is the logo of SONA.
The first meeting to form this association was held in DUDBC (Department of Urban Development and Building Construction) in the office of Ar. Ishwor lal Joshi. Then the second meeting was held in Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, E-Block. The First Annual General Meeting was held at Hotel Bluebird in B.S.2047. The first elected president of SONA was Ar. Gangadhar Bhatt Halbe; being the first architect of Nepal. This is how the SONA was formed. (Source: Ar. Swarup G.
